這是The Beach Boys最為出色的一張專輯，充分體現(xiàn)了一種極其引人入勝且飽含悲劇味道的新穎風(fēng)格。專輯中，有些歌曲還帶有The Beach Boys的經(jīng)典合聲。
以全國最受歡迎沖浪樂團(tuán)起家的Beach Boys，終在1966年成為美國最重要的流行團(tuán)體，在主流聽眾與樂評之間，也是（在某個短暫時期里）唯一能與Beatles巨大成就相抗衡的樂團(tuán)。從他們第一張地區(qū)性暢銷單曲"Surfin"開始，Wilson三兄弟--Brian、Dennis、Carl，加上表哥Mike Love及友人AlJardine，便建構(gòu)起流行樂團(tuán)有史以來最精細(xì)也最耀眼的和諧音色。60年代中期，隨著Brian Wilson在錄音室的制作技巧大幅躍進(jìn)，益發(fā)嫻熟，Beach Boys以1966年顛峰時期的專輯Pet Sounds與冠軍單曲"Good Vibrations"，證明了他們是60年代里，最頂尖的音樂團(tuán)體之一。





雖然Brian Wilson每下愈況的用藥惡習(xí)，與企圖擊敗Beatles的偏執(zhí)欲念，讓他在聽到Beatles的專輯Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band之后，精神完全崩潰，后期只能間斷地參與運(yùn)作，但整個樂團(tuán)仍勇敢而堅定地朝70及80年代邁進(jìn)。雖然他們1966年之后的作品往往被貶抑（如果以整體表現(xiàn)來認(rèn)定的話），但事實(shí)上Beach Boys進(jìn)入70年代后，仍然作出了許多偉大的音樂。最佳的證明是1970年的專輯Sunflower，每位成員都個別展示了過去未充分發(fā)揮的天份。
